Mac: Auto-Import Screen shots to Iphoto
I spent some time looking for a way to import my screenshots into iPhoto without
1. using the terminal command or
2. using an automator program that would run iPhoto ever time I took a screen shot.
This way, I can take multiple screenshots and when I run iPhoto they will be auto-imported.
Additionally if you have iphoto 8 or better you can use a smart album to grab all of your screenshots.
Requires:
Onyx http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
Iphoto 6 or greater (Iphoto 8 if you want to take advantage of smart albums)
1. First you need to find your iPhoto library. For me it’s located Users >KC >pictures. Right click and “Show Package contents”. In here is an Auto Import folder. Right click on that and click make alias.
-From here you need to drag the Auto Import Alias out of the iPhoto library and into an easy-to-find folder that onyx will be able to locate. I put mine back in pictures right under the library.
*Make sure that you drag the Alias out and not the original folder. Also, make sure that folder is not in the iPhoto library folder that you open or else Onyx will not be able to find it.
2. Open Onyx. When it opens it likes to run a few automated scripts if you let them run they will shut down all your other programs so just cancel and move on. Click on Parameters at the top menu.
-In General there’s an option to change your screen capture file format and destination. In the middle of the screen there’s Path [default location of your screen shot captures.] Press Select then “continue” at the warning and find that Auto Import Alias folder.
-Choose that folder. Onyx will save your settings and you can quit it.
Your done! Now when you take a screen shot they will be put into the auto import alias folder and when you run iphoto they will be auto imported.
Those with Iphoto 8 or better can make a smart album that will pull all pictures with the title “picture” (or whatever your screenshot names are) so all your screenshots will be in 1 album.
*I managed to change my screen shot name a while back with some program and I’ve completely forgotten how I did it. If anyone knows how without using the terminal I’d love to add it here.
